MBTI Spotlight: INFP (Soe Hok Gie)

MBTI Spotlight: ISFP (Dean)

As one of the most “artsy” stereotypical MBTI types, ISFP successfully delivers the aura of uniqueness and so-called “hipster” taste. In Korean Music Industry, Dean (Kwon Hyuk) is popularly known as the emerging songwriter of many K-pop hits (Growl by EXO, World Tour by Lee HI). He is also now moving as an Indie R&B singer who manages to break in 88rising and in mainstream industry . Here goes the explanations:

Fi – If we are going to talk more about the harsh K-pop wave and how the fast-paced need of fame in the industry, his decision to join R&B industry under Indie scene is the proof that he’s not looking for a fame. He tends to describe himself as the one that ” creates new sounds and music as the way he wants to and influences the music scene in that way.” When being asked if he is going to look for achievements as his goal as an artist, he tends to think that his goal is to communicate in his “unique” color, style, thoughts and attitude through his music.

Se – Looking at his stage name Dean, which he inspired from James Dean, he wants to embody the rebellious and moving forward spirit, and show his attitude as “naughty and rebel” from the infamous James Dean he looks up to. More than that he also added trbl which means trouble, his Se aux wants to show himself as an experimental musician and known by “raw, rebel, root” as he always tried to portray through interviews. His care for looks and Instagram feeds which he called “artistry” and somehow impulsive (he once had posted things and deactivated his Instagram account out of nowhere) is also the justification on how his Se works.

Ni – He didn’t come out as a solo artist without the ambitions, he realizes that making music should also fit as his voice. He also does not hesitate to say that he has many projects to look forward to other artists, however with the “need” of similar energy from the artists. His recent achievements with his own record company (Top 3 in Billboard World Album, Collaboration with Eric Bellinger, Featured in 88rising) shows how he wants to rule by his own and how his Tertiary Ni tried to be an influence even he said that he only wants to deliver his colors.

Te – His Te mainly shows from his statement on how he never sees himself as “hopeless romantic” and as a singer, producer, and songwriter who mainly never gets afraid to bring out a sexual theme in his music.

MBTI Spotlight: ENFJ (Chicco Jerikho)

“Ketika segala sesuatunya kita kerjakan dengan penuh rasa dan cinta, hasilnya akan jauh lebih baik, dibanding dengan yang kita kerjakan dengan ambisius.”

As we all know, ENFJs are mostly known for their immense charismatic approach and their “good advocate” mannerisms. An example of this would be Indonesian actor Chicco Jerikho. To break it down:

Fe – Chicco is known to be warm, charismatic, and affectionate during interviews and towards his fans. He is always actively supporting a cause and he’s passionate about it, especially on social media where he promotes various causes (such as animal activism, stopping violence against women, various charities, environmental causes, and even religious tolerance. He’s also well known to be an active endorser of WWF). He is somewhat of a moralist, but this is not to be taken as a misunderstood strong form of Fi, since he projects his passion for these causes to the world to help others due to his people-oriented nature. He believes in a greater good, and isn’t afraid to let it show, even through his acting.

Ni – Chicco devotes himself to his work. “Setengah setengah” isn’t a Chicco-ish thing to do. He is equally passionate in promoting causes he believes in (which, again, is related to his Fe). Another use of his Ni is his creativity and the way he channels it into his work. It is no secret that he would always come up with new, out-of-the-box projects every now and then (the Axelerate series, for example).

Unlike ESFJs who often conform to the society’s standards of what they should do and who they should be, Chicco isn’t afraid to push the boundaries – he bravely crafted his very own “cowok kalem” image, which doesn’t conform to the society’s “cool, emotionless” stereotype of “cowo kalem”.

Se – He doesn’t display much of this function other than the way he grooms himself and does a lot of sports, or the fact that he takes on a variety of challenging roles (such as his role in Negri Van Oranje).

Ti – Other than doing commercial movies (and soap operas in the past), Chicco isn’t afraid to produce and act in movies with out-of-the-box concepts. Understanding the art behind his movies, thus conveying some degree of truth in his work, is a proof that his Ti is well developed for an ENFJ.

MBTI Spotlight: INTJ (Elon Musk)

“If something is important enough you should try, even if the probable outcome is failure.”

Ni – Elon Musk is a man of vision. It’s not uncommon for his public appearances to feature him talking about “making life interplanetary” and his future plans. Ever since he was a child, he has always been very future-oriented and driven, and he’s never too afraid to try new things in his career in order to achieve what he wants. He often takes risks to innovate and create (somehow also related to his inferior Se). He risked graduating university early with a bachelor’s degree in physics in order to receive another bachelor’s degree in economics in order to have a deeper understanding of economics and business, which helped him become the businessman/scientist he is today. Most of his actions as a young man and his actions today have been driven by his strong Ni – his strong vision to succeed and change the world. He also has a unique perspective on how the world works, and a knack for talking about the endless possibilities of the human race and its future.

Te – Musk often tells it like it is. During interviews, despite of his slightly shy behaviour, Musk is known for being blunt. With Te as his auxiliary function, he also spends a lot of time planning (although with his dominant Ni, he uses his planning skills mainly for work and planning out the future of Tesla and SpaceX rather than just for daily necessities, unlike like Si-doms and Si-auxes). Ever since he was a young man, he has been carefully planning his future, and this is where his combination of Ni and Te comes into play.

Fi – Musk uses this function well. He has once said that as a child, he used to be bullied, and this was what influenced him to “save the world”. He has a mission to get the human race to Mars in order to save everyone from “extinction”.

Se – For an INTJ, Musk displays quite a lot of this function. Let’s not forget the recent SpaceX explosion. It is clear that Musk is an avid risk-taker when it comes to work. But funnily, his Se didn’t stop there. During interviews, he would often make spontaneous jokes (Business Insider has a whole article on this). Moreover, his occasionally funny, spontaneous tweets (he sometimes doesn’t think twice before tweeting. An example of this is his recent tweet on Westworld that’s got everyone either laughing or offended. He even once said that impulsive tweets are “the best ones”) convey this deep-seated Se.

MBTI Spotlight: ESFJ (Rachel Berry – Glee)

“You might laugh because everytime I sign my name I put a gold star after it, but it’s a metaphor, and metaphor is important. My gold star’s a metaphor for me being a star.”

Rachel Berry, played by Lea Michele, is the main character of Glee Series. In this series, I can really see her as an ESFJ for some several reasons.

Fe – Ms. Berry might look like a diva, she always tried to save the whole stage just for her. However, in daily life, she constantly brought the best of people. She motivated her friends in Glee Club, especially her boyfriend, Finn. She was also very sensitive and insecure. She always tried to do the best just because she was afraid she would not do something perfectly.

Si – The quote from Ms. Rachel Berry said it all, lmao! She had several routines like putting gold star ⭐️ after her signs and complicated-yet-always-perfect hairdo in the night. Also, she was very conventional, she liked traditions and was proud of them, from the simplest ones like girls’ night out to Thanksgiving and Christmas. On top of that, she had a very good memory, and moving on from things and people was something difficult for her.

Ne – Although seemed very planned, she sometimes altered her life plans when she realized she had to. Her tertiary functions helped her to do this. She knew that in the end she was going to be in Broadway, but she never limited herself to other big chances.

Ti – Her last cognitive function helped her to analyze other people, what they did wrong and right, in order to create success for herself. In an unhealthy phase, she also could overanalyze people, and make the drama out of her analysis.

MBTI Spotlight: ISFJ (Steve Rogers – Captain America)

“We try to save as many people as we can. Sometimes that doesn’t mean everybody, but, if we can’t find a way to live with that, Next time… maybe nobody can be saved.”
-Steve Rogers on Captain America: Civil War

Si – Steve is a man of details and common sense, with vivid memories of his past life and the people in it. Let’s take a look at Captain America: The Winter Soldier. When he finally find out that his enemy, The Winter Soldier, is Bucky, he isn’t that easy to believe that his old friend has turned evil. At the point when he pull out The Winter Soldier’s mask, he suddenly remember how closed they were and tend to avoid the fight rather than to fight back. So, it is just a very simple evidence that he has more faith with his own memory than what happens in front of him.

Fe – Steve is making decisions based on a value system that is concerned with the well being of people. These values are more global and cultural than personal. It showed up at Captain America: The First Avenger. He is literally willing to throw himself on a grenade to protect the people around him rather than run away to save his own life. He is eager to keep the peace, wants to save everyone, and tries to fit in.

Ti – Steve learns to think about situations and see them from new perspectives. Where others worked hard to climb the flag pole, he finds the logical solution. Instead of climb it, on the contrary he pull the pin, drop the flag, and pick it up off the ground. He rarely shares what’s going on inside his head, but instead simply acts on it.

Ne – Steve focused on the big picture. As a soldier, he has faith to win whatever war he is in, to fight for truth, justice, and his country. He’s able to adapt to the modern world, even if he isn’t happy about it.
